Connecting Point – May 1, 2024

Tomorrow (May 2) is our nation’s NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER.  I encourage you to join me tomorrow in prayer by Facebook Live at 7:14 am (or later on demand); praying with me for our region, state and nation. You can catch me on the Celebration Church Metairie-New Orleans Facebook Group ( And you can encourage friends and family members to join with us as well.

Someone asked me recently, “What’s the best thing that we can do for our region, state and nation?” Especially in this Presidential Election Year. There are many good answers to that question. But the best thing we can do is pray because prayer connects us with the person of God and prayer brings the power of God into the situations and relationships that we’re concerned about in our region, state, nation and world.

Here are some quotes about prayer for great men of God.

  • “The greatest thing anyone can do for God and man is pray. It is not the only thing; but it is the chief thing. The great people of the earth today are the people who pray. I do not mean those who talk about prayer; nor those who say they believe in prayer; nor yet those who can explain about prayer; but I mean these people who take time to pray.” - S. D. Gordon

  • “The power of prayer can never be overrated. They who cannot serve God by preaching need not regret. If a man can but pray, he can do anything. He who knows how to overcome with God in prayer has Heaven and earth at his disposal.” - Charles Spurgeon

So, join me for prayer on the NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER if you can, remembering that the Lord said in 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their evil ways, I will hear from Heaven, forgive their sins, and heal their land.”

This Sunday we will learn about Living For Eternity. Be sure to join us in-person or online, and ask some friends and family members to join us as well.

Give Nola Day

Next Tuesday (May 7) is GIVE NOLA DAY in our region. It’s a day when people throughout our region are encouraged to give to their favorite local charities. If Celebration Church is one of your favorite charities you can give to help us with: The 52 Challenge (Rebuilding Our Campuses), Crescent City Christian School or our Celebration Hope Center (Counseling Center). You can find out more about our GIVE NOLA DAY opportunities at Help make Celebration Church one of the most well-supported local charities next Tuesday on GIVE NOLA DAY.

Mother's Day Header

Mother’s Day will take place on May 12. And Mother’s Day is a great day for families to attend Church services together. For many Churches Mother’s Day is one of the highest attended Sundays of the year, because it’s a time when children intentionally attend a worship service with their mother or grandmother as a demonstration of their love and appreciation for them, and when husbands attend a worship service with their spouse for the same reason.

Mothers, grandmothers and wives, I encourage you to use your influence to get your family members to come with you to Celebration Church this Sunday. Tell them, “What I want for Mother’s Day is for my family to join me in Church.” I believe that when your family members come with you they will be encouraged by the worship and friendliness of our people and challenged and potentially changed by the message they hear from God’s Word. One lady texted me last year two weeks before Mother’s Day and said, “My son and his wife have already agreed to attend Church with me on Mother’s Day. It’s their first time in Church in a long time. Prayer works.”

So mothers, grandmothers and wives, I’m asking you to give your best effort to bring your family members to Church services this Mother’s Day. I’m asking you to do so because I know that you want them to experience the Lord’s saving, healing, freeing and transforming power in their lives. And because I know that you want them to join you in heaven one day.

Our Pastors, Staff and Leaders look forward to seeing you and those you bring with you this Sunday at our Celebration Campuses, or Online.

Gratefully yours,
