Connecting Point – May 29, 2024

What one thing do you think would give you a great advantage as you seek to live a vibrant and victorious life? Some would respond with money, possessions, education, influence, etc. My response is that having a supernatural guide who provides us with supernatural power would be better for us than anything else. And we have that guide in the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said in John 14: "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit who leads into all truth. The world at large cannot receive Him, because it isn't looking for Him and doesn't recognize Him. But you do, because He lives with you now and will later be in you. . . .  But when the Father sends the Counselor as My representative - and by the Counselor I mean the Holy Spirit - He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I myself have told you." (John 14:16-17, 26)

Those words of Jesus remind us that Christians have an incredible advantage in today's world because we have God's Spirit living within us. The Bible teaches that the moment we repent of our sins and confess Jesus as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to live in us (Acts 2:38, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Ephesians 1:13), and His power is available to us.

"Be filled and keep on being filled with the Holy Spirit." (Ephesians 5:18)

In our text, Jesus said the Holy Spirit is our Counselor. That means He is available to comfort us, direct us, teach us, and guide us. After His resurrection, Jesus said, "You shall receive power after the Holy Spirit has come upon you" (Acts 1:8).  He was saying that God's Spirit would give us the power to live like God wants us to live and do what He wants us to do. Paul wrote in Ephesians 5:18, "Be filled and keep on being filled with the Holy Spirit". He then wrote about how living in the power of God's Spirit enables us to be strong husbands, wives, children, parents, workers, and warriors (Ephesians 5:18 - 6:20).  We can all become stronger in the crucial arenas and relationships of life as we rely daily on the Holy Spirit's presence and power!

For the Holy Spirit to reign and rule in our lives and infuse us with His wisdom, direction, counsel, and power, we must be willing to address several issues in our lives.  First, we must be willing to address, confess, and repent of any unconfessed sin in our lives.  The Bible teaches that the Lord gives the Holy Spirit and His power to those who "obey Him" (Acts 5:32).  Second, we must be willing to replace "self" on the throne of our heart with God's Spirit. Jesus said, "If anyone comes after Me, let him deny himself, take up His cross, and follow Me" (Luke 9:23).  Third, we must surrender all that we are, have, desire, and need to the Lord.  In other words, we must be "emptied out" of sin and self and completely surrendered to the Lord before we can be filled with the Holy Spirit. But when we are filled with God's Spirit we will have the power to discern God's Word and God's will, witness about the Lord, and do the work of the Lord; and we will have the power to defeat sin, situations, and Satan in our lives!

I encourage you to do several things. First, ask the Lord to show you any sin, self-centeredness, or lack of surrender that is hindering your walk with the Lord, and ask Him to forgive you and free you from it. Next, pray for the Lord to fill you with His Holy Spirit. And then, pray for the Holy Spirit's power to be manifested in your life. When you have the Holy Spirit's power in your life, you have the power to overcome every obstacle and opponent and live a vibrant, victorious life!

School's Out

This Sunday (June 2) at Celebration we will continue our The Way Of The Wise sermon series, and we will also have Promotion Sunday.

Promotion Sunday is when we have special emphases and activities for Children who are transitioning from Kidztown to Midpoint and from Midpoint to the Social (our Youth ministry). Be sure to join us Sunday at Celebration, as we begin what promises to be a fun-filled, Spirit-filled summer.

All In Baptism

In a couple of weeks on Sunday, June 9, we will have our annual ALL-IN BAPTISM DAY at our Celebration Campuses. On that day we are encouraging the following people to take the step of baptism by immersion if: 1) they've never taken that important discipleship step in their life, and 2) they weren't fully committed to the Lord when they took that step earlier in their lives.

From the beginning of Christianity, people have demonstrated they're a follower of Jesus Christ by being baptized (Acts 2:37-41). "Baptize" is a transliteration of the Greek word "baptizo" which means to "immerse under the water", and so "baptism by immersion" is the Biblical mode of baptism. When a person takes this step they're declaring that they are committed to living for Jesus Christ.

Making that strong statement helps us to rise to a new level of faith and strength in our lives. To learn more about "baptism by immersion," contact your Life Group Leader or a Campus Staff Member, or go to www.celebrationchurch.org/baptism.
