Connecting Point – November 29, 2023

"It's the most wonderful time of the year" were the opening words of a song I heard every December while growing up, and at Celebration Church we always have wonderful events planned for the Christmas season. Here are some of those events you may want to participate in and invite others to join you for.

  • Sweet Christmas Events begin this Friday, December 1 - These special times of worship, fellowship, and food give our ladies the opportunity to break away from the craziness of the holidays so they can focus on strengthening their relationship with the Lord and having fun together. You can find the dates and times of your campus' Sweet Christmas at celebrationchurch.org/aspire. And be sure to invite your lady friends to join in with them. It will be a great way for our women to start their Christmas season.

  • Our Uptown Children will be singing in our Worship Services on December 10 - Nothing brings us more joy than seeing children worship the Lord and sing of their love for Him. Be sure to invite your family members to this special Sunday.

  • Our special Christmas Weekend services will take place on December 23-24. In our Christmas Weekend services, we will be singing familiar Christmas songs, participating in Communion, having a special Pastor's time with the Children, and taking time in a powerful and uplifting way to remember what Christmas is all about. Our Christmas services are always a great opportunity for you to invite friends and family members to Celebration Church. So, write down the names of friends, relatives, co-workers, and neighbors you need to encourage to attend our Christmas Weekend services. Then, plan to invite them today or tomorrow to come with you. I can assure you they will receive much encouragement, hope, and help by attending our Christmas Weekend services.

There will be many other events taking place during December such as special ministry activities and Life Group parties. Connect with your Campus Staff and Leaders to see how you can be involved in some of those events during the month of December.

One focus at Christmas time is helping people around the world through our Christmas Missions offering. This years offering will go directly to support:

  • The building of 5 houses for homeless families in Guatemala

  • 6 months of funding for our Life Transformation Center that ministers to children, teens, and senior adults in New Orleans' Hollygrove/Dixon community

  • The construction of a village Church worship facility in Kenya

  • Training for 800 Pastors and Church Leaders in Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic

  • Benevolence Funding for the elderly and disadvantaged of our region

  • Supporting the Baptist Village ministry in Israel that is housing displaced people

  • 100 Celebration Missionaries as well as 2469 North American Mission Board missionaries and 3552 International Mission Board missionaries

As you receive direction from the Lord, plan to give generously to our Christmas Missions Offering. You can give online at www.celebrationchurch.org/give (select your campus, then designate Christmas Offering) or by using the Christmas Missions Offering envelopes that are found in our Worship Centers. For more information about the Christmas Missions Offering and its intended recipients, go to www.celebrationchurch.org.

Pray for our Celebration Staff as we mourn the passing of several of our Staff's immediate family members, and celebrate their lives and legacies in memorial services.

  • This Saturday we will be memorializing Huey Whitman who was the father of our Church Business Manager, Allison Konur. Huey and his wife Cheryll attended our Metairie-New Orleans Campus and served in our Kidztown ministry.

  • On Friday, December 8, we will be memorializing Hayden "Chic" Miller, the father of Pastor Manley Miller who leads our Celebration Kenner congregation. Chic was a long time member of Celebration who encouraged and inspired many others through his leadership in our Celebrate Recovery and Toastmasters ministries.

  • Later in December we will be memorializing Pat Hornick, the wife of Bob Hornick who is our Celebration Financial Director. Pat formerly served as my Ministry Assistant during the years following Hurricane Katrina.

All 3 of these individuals made a significant impact on the people of our Church, and will be greatly missed by our Staff family and by the many others who knew them. We are comforted in knowing that we will see them again in Heaven, but pray for us during this mourning time.

Last Sunday we launched our IMMANUEL - GOD WITH US sermon series that will take us to Christmas Weekend. In this series we'll be learning more about our Savior who came to our world that first Christmas, and about how He wants to bring comfort, victory, security and peace to our lives. This is a great series to invite your friends and family members to check out. So be sure to do that in the coming days.
Gratefully yours,
